6 years on

Last Saturday Omar and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and in our true fashion we didn't do or get anything to celabrate. Really, it is not a conscious decission, it just happens that we always forget to plan something special.
I did, however make a card and as i didn't have (or could not find) any happy anniversary greeting I opted for an old KI Memories Mr & Mrs word fetti (I know that wordfetti are made by Making memories, but I forgot what the ones by Ki are called). Also I decorated the inside with several quotes referring to married life and love from the same KI Memories product. They are brilliant, although I bought them long time ago I keep using them.

By the way, tomorrow I will be demonstrating at Crafts U Love. Helen Meighan -if you like punches and/or peel offs, you will adore her work-, Stamping Caz -the queen of colouring- plus Kim Fee and Wendy Horrod. For more details, click here.

Done some cardmaking for fun

It may come as a surprise to some of you, but I rarely make cards for my own amusement anymore. Most likely, if I make them it will be for a magazine, class or other type of commission.
The thing is that I don't really send that many, so I have already boxes full from articles and classes. When I feel creative, then I scrapbook or do a mini album which allows me to be artistic but also do something with my photos (have thousands) and memorabilia (boxes full of that too!).
But today was a weird day because I just wanted to make a card using some Stampin Up and Penny Black stamps using Craftwork Cards ruffles and the plain and simple white card (the BEST to stamp and colour in by far!).
I am pretty happy with the result, and hopefully I will keep doing it more often. (Fingers crossed!)

The Glitter Pot Tomorrow

Tomorrow, I will be demonstrating the NEW release for the Cuttlebug which includes the loveliest embossing folders and combo sets at the Glitter Pot. If you love the system, you will love the new additions. To be honest, I didn't expect them expect them until July, so it is a great surprise. So, from 10:00 till 4:00, there are going to be five free demos by Jane Gill, Stamping Caz, Gaynor, Kay Webb and yours truly.

And as quick recap of last week demo at the Craft Barn:

I had a fantastic time, the new owner has done a really nice job in the place and she has keept one of the nicest managers in charge, Katie. It was lovely to work for her again even though it was just two days!

Sandra Dry is the designer of the Daisy and Dan range of Kadoodle. She had lovely ideas like the one above, perfect for the little princesses.

And even though I took this photo when we were packing up after two very tiring demo days, I manage to get Jane Gill to smile and pose for a quick photo session. I love this woman, not only she is super talented but also she is such a great funny lady.

Small project

I haven't been a good blogger as I have really busy the last few weeks and I will be for the next few weeks. Tomorrow I have the first session of step by step photography for my third book, really looking forward... to tomorrow evening when the session is over as it is quite tiring process.

This is the project I taught last Saturday at Treasure Crafts. I love teaching there, the atmosfere is always so lovely! This project is what I call a scrapcard, but I am not sure if everyone would agree that it is. I guess as of now it doesn't have photos therefore the scrap part doesn't quite apply.
The butterflies are from the Cricut Home Accents cartridge and the papers are from My Minds Eye.

But whatever you call it, I think is a great little project to send as a card for a family or a card that a family sends to one person. Why? because as it has different pages and little tags, you can write different messages for different people, or different people can write each a message for the one recipient. (I don't know if what I just wrote makes sense, too late to check it out!)

I love messages in circles...

Bright colours courtesy of K & Co with a lovely glittery finish and the Birthday In circles. I am loving the cards off the edge, because it means that make new any old sketch -although I rarely use sketches- and by tilting and putting some corners off edge.

Father's day card

Very simple cards folding paper to reveal the other side of the patterned paper is something I like to do. It helps obviously to have double sided paper like this one by SEI. The fold, on the right hand side card, allows to attach the sentiment so it is floating.

Acetate cards

If you like acetate cards, you should get this months Quick Cards Made Easy, in which I have the article explaining how to make the cards above.

More acetate

Yes, more acetate. This one is to show a very simple idea: a rub on (Basic Grey, Two Scoops) on a thick acetate card and on the inside a piece of alcohol inked opaque paper. The message or any writing would be on a white card/paper that is exactly the same size as the alcohol inked one but glue on the very back of the card. A little bit different, but that is what I like.
About my first demo, Karen, well that was over four years ago and to be honest still remember quite well. Even though I am a very insecure -extremely- person, when it came to demonstrate paper crafts was really easy. I will say that you need to be confident on the products that you are using and the best way to do that is use them a lot before the demo day.

Cuttlebug and other bits and bobs

Tomorrow I will be demonstrating for the first time at Imagine that (Essex) which is always exciting. I will be using the cuttlebug, grunge board and more, come along from 10:00h.

And just to show, that Omar sometimes is very sweet.

Mixed feelings

Today I went to Creative Pastimes and saw so many friends there from the good old days, which was great. It was a little bit emotional as that place holds very good memories for me. That is why I had mixed feelings today.

After that, I headed to Imagine That, a paper craft shop, Upminster, as I am demonstrating there next Saturday (26th of April) I needed to get the stuff for it. It is a lovely shop and definitely worth a trip as is also near to Artbase.

The last few days I have been creative without having a reason, ie a commission, class a demo, which is a change and a really welcomed one for that. What really inspired me was the new releases from Craftwork Cards for the Big Stamp and Scrapbooking Show, and, yes, I know I keep posting about them, but honestly lately they are the company who is inspiring me to create!

I took a scallop square wrap and attach on each flap a plasma tag and trim the scallop end of the tag. For the front I used some of In circle Sayings and five Besides Words, both designed by yours truly. I have to say that the top photo doesn't show the card once folded, as when it is folded you can see the pink scallop ruffle.

Acetate, wraps and Quick Cards Made Easy

I believe this card will be next in the issue of Quick Cards Made Easy. It is part of the 6 ways with acetate. What I really like about the card is incorporation of the Craftwork Cards wraps -the scallop white card- they are fun and they come in all shapes. By the way, the acetate with the black print is from Hambly Studios and it is available from Imagine That.

PS: I just had a letter through the post which confirmed some rumors I had heard last week. Paper crafters who live in the South East of England will know Creative Pastimes, or Creative Livings as it has been called recently, the sad thing is that it is closing down. They have a half price sale starting Saturday, 18th of April and will go on until the 30th of April.

As I used to work there (almost two years), it is really sad and I can only wish the best for the owners, Theresa and Faye, in whatever they do next.

Thanks

As you should know by now, I am not what they say a proper blogger. I rarely post more than once a week, but every single month I tell my self that this is the month when I start to post daily.
Sure enough I have ideas of things to say, cards to post and links to offer, yet never find the time -or maybe energy- to do so.
For whatever the reason of keep coming back, thank you. Really. I will be triying to be a better blogger, no promises, though!
This week in short:
Tuesday visit to Crafts U love to get the stuff for today's demo, then drive straight down to Newton Abbot (Devon) -why? A new book, yes, my third!-;
Wednesday the meeting and straight up to Kenley;
Thursday, my first photography paid job -but no portraits, will tell more if I can later-;
Friday, preparation for today's demos and class;
Saturday (today) clas at 9:30 and demo from 10:30 at Crafts U love.
Right now (Saturday evening in between of tidying/rearranging furniture.

And last but definitely not least, I'd like to say a big thank you to the very nice Fabrizio (a real sweetie) and to the equally nice Leonie (a real sweetie too!) for this award, I feel very special that not one, but two of my crafter friends have chosen this poorly updated blog!

I'll follow the rules of the Pico award, the first one being I need to list the rules!:

1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contributes to the blogging community, no matter what language.

2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of "Arte y Pico" blog , so everyone will know the origin of this award.

5) To show these rules.

Fabrizio's blog, which you should visit is:

Leonie's blog which you should visit also is:

Die Cut paper

I absolute love the craze of die cut paper, from the KI memories ones to the Creative Memories they are all beautiful and I don't seem to stop buying them! The above card was made with Making Memories paper and embellishments. The blank is Craftwork Cards as well as the foiled saying.

More Stitches Samples

These are two different cards I made for Stitches. The above one was done using Basic grey Swirlie stamp embossed with distressing embossing powder, hence the mat effect (black soot color) on a tag distressed with marigold (distress ink pad). The message is 7 Gypsies, background is alcohol inks on acetate.

This one is done with Perfect Pearls, Forever Violet. The monogram was done with the lifting technique and glossy accents over it. Alcohol inks on the background again.

Stitches

I am back from Stitches, or the Craft and Stitching Trade show in the UK. This was the third time I was demonstrating for the full duration of the show at the Kars stand. My job was demonstrating all the Ranger products that Kars carries, like the Perfect Pearls, Alcohol Inks, Distressing stuff and much more. The photo above was taken the third day, as you can see by my tired expression, I had not much energy left.

The card above was one of the samples that I had, it was done with Alcohol inks, Basic Grey Two Scoops Swirlie stamps and Ultra Thick embossing powder (for the monogram). I hope to post more photos of the samples in the next few days.
The girls (Lynn and Glenda) at the Elusive Images stand save me from a complete lack of tags on which to demonstrate the techniques by the second day, as I hand them to customers, so a big Thank YOU!

Cindy Rapsom was another Kars demonstrator and did a faboulous job showing off the cuttlebug new dies and embossing folders. These two photos are of mother and daughter duo, Vanessa (top) and Polly (bottom) Noonan. Vanessa is the owner of Craftability and she was demonstrating the Cricut Expressions + Design Studio. Polly was in office duties which included answering loads and loads of a variety of important, silly and annoying questions, but she always had that smile. Polly is also the designer of Polly doodles, a range of scrapbooking and cardmaking papers.

Amanda Walker is a fantastic fellow Quick & Crafty and Crafts Beautiful all round designer. She is now the Kars expert on jewelry which she demonstrated at the Show. She has recently published a beautiful jewelry book within the Search Press 20 to make collection.

Some of my favorite companies have gone trade this year. Above the Craftwork Cards stand who have launghed Oh My Word, die cut foiled wording designed and manufactured in the UK. And of course, they have a few sets designed by yours truly: Rescue Words (in Birthday and Mixed Sayings), Simply Sayings in Circles, Besides Words (Patterned circles) and, of course my Simply Sayings.

Above the Banana Frog stand, don't you just love the name? And it is run by Bev Fletcher a really nice northen girl who designs beautiful and really good quality clear stamps.

The card above and the flowers bellow were done by the uber talented Jane Gill. She is absolutely one of my papercraft heroes alongside Julie Hickey and a few others. She does a beautiful and intricate work, something I could never do.

Jane was once again at the Woodware stand demonstrating how to make this flowers out of plain paper using the floral punches.

Wendy Rhodes
is another one of the girls who has taken her ideas to a new level by stablishing her company, Wild Rhodes.

A silly photo of me at the hotel room. I am so in love with my new camera that I want to explore all different possibilities, like the self portait. This one was the best one out of a dozen, so you can imagine how bad the rest were.

And the last photo had to be the one of Tim Holtz and my self. there is a little bit of funny story there. As I told you at the begining of the post, I was demonstrating Ranger products one of them being the Distressing range which is one of Tim Holtz products. Funny thing, since he was demonstrating them in the Personal Impressions stand just accross of me, in fact if you look to the right hand side of the photo you can just about to see the glass shelving where I had displayed my samples. Tim was really nice though and even came once to my demo area to see what I was doing. Can you imagine that? I mean, demonstrating products to the person who is behind them?

One of the cool new releases were his new stampers anonymous stamps some of them in ATC sizes, which you can see here.

By the way, the picture was taken by P.I. boss Jayne Owles while she was on the phone to a super busy Dawn Bibby. That is what I call multi task. By the way, today Dawn Bibby opened the doors of her new shop in Oswaldtwistle.

Work, work, workshops

This is a really busy time for all people involve in the craft industry as it is the time when all the collections are launched and trade fairs are hosted. It is as exciting as it is tiring.
This week I will be demonstrating at The craft Co stand at the Make it Show, Farnborough, where I shall be using my fab Cricut Expressions and the Design Studio.

Next week though I will be teaching a workshop at the Craftwork Cards down South Mega Sale. As you may know, this Leeds based company produces lovely stuff -now they do some stuff even designed by a shameless Paula Pascual! Anyway, the star of the company is without a doubt Julie Hickey, a best seller craft author that makes cardmaking really modern, fresh and exciting. Oh, and she is a fantastic friend too. Julie and I are going to teach a two hour workshop in which for a tenner you will do an hour with her, and a n hour with me using the latest and brightest products form Craftwork Cards. Really exciting new things will be unveiled there for the first time and some massive sales on the other stuff. For booking and more questions contact Craftwork Cards.

By the way, the above card was done using Craftwork Cards!

One day at Craftwork Cards

I am so excited that my Simply Sayings -the ones I designed for CWC- are on the website for all you to buy! They were put on the website on Tuesday and soon afterwards there were orders put in. I know they are my own, but I love to use this sayings. The above card is one I did for the December Recipe Cards. Hopefully with the new camera I will be able to take much better photos of my projects.

This years Christmas cards

Right, I am enjoying myself making loads of cards. The number of cards that I sent every year seems to grow, but that makes me happy.
None of the cards is too complicated or time consuming, as I am a quick and easy kind of person as you well know by now, but that doesn't mean that I don't think about them on how to make them more pretty. I always tend to choose a few products and they give the colour theme for the cards. I never make more than ten similar, as I want to enjoy the process more than finishing them in time. I might post full pictures of the cards later on or maybe next year, who knows... but not until I have send them.

This last few months have been so busy that I just realized I haven't done any scrapbooking for a long time. So busy that I had to cancel today's scrapbooking session (a very small crop) at my house. It felt bad, but honestly, I couldn't do anything but concentrate on my work.

Not much time to spare

Saturday 1st of December, I got my first Christmas card, from a very dear and generous friend of mine. That reminds me that I really need to start making mine!
Also I spent the weekend trying different things with Photoshop, I guess I need to practice more but I don't have much extra time, as I had to prepare for tomorrows class at The Art of Craft and do an article for Quick and Crafty.
By the way, this card is from last year, of course. Using some of my favorite dies from Quickutz, available from Crafts U love.

Christmas Cards

You know, with Christmas cards I have a love affair, and as such it is a difficult relationship with ups and downs. I have to start designing them long before the hot months of the year are over. Then, soon after, teaching them and finnally it is time for me to make the ones I need to send. the thing is that when I find myself at the end of November, nothing to be sent has been done and I am all Christmas cards tired. So, for now I am just posting some cards I made for articles, clases and that I sent last year.
By the way, I did sent twice as many as I received, although that is not a real complaint, because all the people that matter to me did sent me one.

As you can see, I had a theme about Red and White, and some other with silver and black as well, all of which are my favorite colours to dress, decorate and craft!

Also, yesterday we bought ourselves a big addition to our media family: a 24" iMac which, loaded with my favorite programs, it is just a treat to do design work with. I have never been but a Mac girl!
As a sample of some of the playful and cool stuff that the Photobooth does...

I can share good news with you all. I have designed some stuff -shapes and messages- for Craftwork Cards that should be out quite soon. As soon as I get them and they are available to buy I'll let you know.
This is my first time designing stuff for crafting, so as you can imagine I am beyond thrilled!
By the way, the card above was part of the Recipe Cards that I did for that company, using the scalloped chipboard card and flowers and their All Sorts papers which are black and White a favorite of mine!

QVC and Stampin UP

Yep, quite a combo. As I always mentioned how tired I am, I am not going to say it today. But you can imagine the effects of spending over 12 hours at QVC.
If you watched the 20:00 hour, you just might had catch me completely off guard and hiding afterwards under the table. Not that I am shy or anything like that, just really not prepared. Working alongside Dawn and Leonie is such a good experience, I always learn something new from both of them and my admiration towards both of them just keeps growing. It is quite simple, really: they know what they are doing, and trust me working as they do is NOT easy at all. It is just not about making beautiful cards, it is about being able to create cards in a few minutes, changing constantly techniques and/or styles. Plus, Dawn has to arrange so much in the business side that it is just unbelievable. Also, Leonie and I chatted about a great, great idea combining two beautiful things that we would like to do in the near future, but I can't say more now.

In other news, I just sent the application to become a Stampin Up demonstrator. I am hoping to be an active one, but not sure how it will work out. If you would be interested in attending or hosting Stampin Up parties, over the web or in real life, let me know! Email me to the address that appears on the profile section of this blog.

And last but not least, some good news on another front, Craftwork Cards. More on that later on.

Cascade Pop up cards

At least that is how I call them.Way too tired to give instructions! Today I taught them at The Glitter Pot. Again, sorry about the quality of the photos, still captured by a camera phone .

I am getting ready for Portugal, where I will be teaching at Dawn's Crafting Holiday. And by getting ready I mean getting loads of ATC's ready. Leonie, it is your fault, another papercraft addiction to my long list!

Wow!

I have just had a conversation with Penny Black owner, Shaida, and now I am a Penny Black Artist. I am so excited! I have loved this company rubber stamps since I started stamping seriously, that is over four years ago. The quality is superb and the designs are to die for, from modern to cute passing by beautiful wording and funky ladies.
So, from now on, you will see loads from this company in this blog.

This card was done using the Snowscape rubber stamp and Giving and receiving acrylic set. Also I used Carftwork Cards card and Ruffles, wich is the lovely scalloped rectangle.

Penny Black stickers

Don't you just love this stickers? They are just beautiful and so easy to make a card with them. This is actually one of my favorites from the new Christmas range. I used two, one as a background and another one decoupaged. The message from the cut out sticker can be used for another card, so no waste at all.

Ally Pally

So it seems that I will be working Saturday at my favorite show again. And again I will be demonstrating at the Craft Co. stand (don't know which one just yet!).
So since I came back from holidays just over two weeks ago I have: demonstrated at two different events (three and one days), done samples for both, held two sessions of scrapping at my house, design three articles 9one of twelve cards, one of ten, and a qanda with photo of a project), met with my publishers about my next book... Did I mention that I am doing a second book? Oh, well yes I am doing one for Search Press.
I'll let you know more about later on, which knowing me will be in a while.

And, by the way, thank you for the lovely comments on the card from the previous post. To show you another option of decorating using this fold, here you have one using old Sissix dies and some hand drawn stitching which I did to teach at a class. Again outside and inside photos.

For the concerned messages, for your friendship. I do appreciate all of you enormously.

(By the way the card is the one I sent Kim with the rest of the Coffee tins that I had left. It was done with Basic Grey paper, Stampin Up stamp and in the inside, same paper, Prima Got Daisies and stamp by Hero Arts.)

Brights

Posted by Picasa
If ten years ago you told me that i was going to be making cards with loads of bright pink on them, I would have laugh at you. Honestly. Most of the people who read this blog (yes, there are some other readers beside you) are from the UK so pink or purple seem to be kind of the obvious choice. For a continental -love the sound of that since my friend Jane Gill used it- oranges and reds are much more eligible. I guess it's because I have been leaving here for a while but now a days most of my projects seem to have pink or bright pink on them.
Is it the sign of me becoming a real British?

-----
The card was part of an article published in July's issue of Quick and Crafty. Fancy Pants papers and stamps, sentiment is a Basic Grey Rub On, Oval scallop punch by Woodware in size 2" and Craftwork Cards card (not sure if it is Rio Rose or Chile colours).

Christmas is coming!

Really. Really. Well at least in a cardmaking sense. Or when did you think that Xmas projects for magazines were made?
Actually this two cards were made last week as part of the samples for the demo at The Art of Craft (Farnborough). I was demonstrating one of my favorite tools (right, I have lots of favorite tools) the Cuttlebug. Its embossing folders are one of the best things ever. I just used some non-christmassy Basic Grey for the cards, I guess as much as I want it, I can't really get into festive mood just yet.

Because Omar means the world to me

I decided that I would give him a map of the world, a big one, one that is a 1,50 metre wide, just below my height (yes, I am THAT short!). To go with it I made this card. Making cards for Omar is relatively easy, easy because I know what he likes very well, relatively because he has very high standars when it comes to handmade cards.
So, the easy part: green (in real life is way more greener than in the photo, no photoshop in this computer) and flowers (yes, he loves flowers!). I wanted to incorporate a map so i used an old HerArts stamp for the background, stamped with Versamark and chalked with my lovely Pebbles Ink Pearlescent Chalks. The Big flower is a bazzill blossom, button by I-forgot-who, old ribbon, tag punch by Woodware, 7 Gypsies rub on and Quickutz die (metro alphabet).
Let me say that I never pre plan my cards, well there is no much point on me doing that, because I always change my mind. You see, I just have an idea of the stash I would like to use and then look in my studio for matching colours, themes and so on. When I have a choice of stuff on the table I try and see how the things look together. That is the way it works for me, which may or not work for you too.

Ribbon

Last Friday I taught two classes at Creative Pastimes (Surrey) on ribbon. I was using Paper Salon Papers and you can see some examples (not all of them) of what we did.

As always I tried to do different things with ribbon in each of them as well as going through some issues like storage and gluing.
How to make a perfect bow, how to attach ribbon flat, how to weave it or how to staple were some of the ways that I showed with the cards.
You can see also how much I like this set from Hero Arts stamps. I am using it in almost all my cards, so much so that I even know the code by heart (LL165), something totally unheard of!
